Hari Raya Haji in Singapore

Hari Raya Haji, also known as Eid al-Adha or the festival of sacrifice, commemorates the willingness of the Prophet Ibrahim to sacrifice his son in obedience to God. It coincides with the culmination of the annual Hajj pilgrimage to Mecca and is a gazetted public holiday in Singapore.

The day begins with morning prayers at mosques, followed by the korban (ritual sacrifice of livestock), with the meat distributed to family, friends and those in need. Its date follows the Islamic lunar calendar.
