National Day in Singapore
Celebrates Singapore's independence on 9 August 1965.
National Day, observed on 9 August, commemorates Singapore's independence in 1965. It is the country's most prominent secular public holiday and is marked by the National Day Parade (NDP), a grand celebration featuring military and civil parades, aerial displays, fireworks and mass performances.
Homes, housing estates and buildings across the island are decorated with the national flag, and Singaporeans recite the National Pledge and sing patriotic songs. If the day falls on a Sunday, the following Monday is a public holiday.
