New Year's Day in Singapore

Marks the first day of the Gregorian calendar year.

New Year's Day marks the beginning of the Gregorian calendar year and is one of Singapore's eleven gazetted public holidays. It is a quieter holiday compared with the city-state's major cultural festivals, offering a welcome day off after the New Year's Eve countdown celebrations along Marina Bay and the Singapore River.

Shopping malls, attractions and restaurants generally remain open, while most offices and schools are closed. As with all Singapore public holidays, if the day falls on a Sunday the following Monday is a public holiday.
