Vesak Day in Singapore

Vesak Day is the most important festival in the Buddhist calendar, commemorating the birth, enlightenment and passing of Gautama Buddha. Temples across Singapore are decorated with flowers and lanterns, and devotees gather for prayers, the bathing of Buddha statues, candlelight processions and acts of charity such as the release of caged birds and free vegetarian meals.

It is a gazetted public holiday, falling on the day of the full moon in the lunar month of Vesakha, usually in May.
