Hari Raya Haji in Malaysia

The festival of sacrifice, coinciding with the Hajj pilgrimage.

Hari Raya Haji, also called Hari Raya Aidiladha or Eid al-Adha, is the festival of sacrifice. It commemorates the willingness of the Prophet Ibrahim to sacrifice his son in obedience to God, and coincides with the culmination of the annual Hajj pilgrimage to Mecca.

Observed nationally, the day begins with congregational prayers, after which the qurban (ritual sacrifice of livestock) is performed and the meat distributed to family, neighbours and the needy.
