Selangor Public Holidays 2026

Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari announced the special holiday on Monday, 24 August 2026, after Selangor won the overall SUKMA 2026 title. Tuesday, 1 September was chosen in recognition of the athletes, officials, volunteers and parents involved.

The declaration was made under subsection 9(1) of the Holidays Act 1951. It applies to federal and state civil servants serving in Selangor. For the private sector, the Labour Department clarified that this is an optional public holiday rather than an automatic day off for every employee; actual treatment depends on the public holidays selected by the employer.

The Selangor government announced on 11 September that Sunday, 25 October 2026 would be a special public holiday throughout the state for the Silver Jubilee marking 25 years of Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah's reign. Because the date falls on a Sunday, Monday, 26 October was designated as the replacement public holiday.

State Secretary Datuk Dr Ahmad Fadzli Ahmad Tajuddin said the holiday would be observed in the same manner as the 1 September SUKMA holiday. Federal and state civil servants serving in Selangor are covered, while private employers are encouraged to grant leave at their discretion and with operational needs in mind. Private-sector employees should check their employer's selected holiday schedule.
