Why Selangor has a holiday on 1 September 2026
Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari announced the special holiday on Monday, 24 August 2026, after Selangor won the overall SUKMA 2026 title. Tuesday, 1 September was chosen in recognition of the athletes, officials, volunteers and parents involved.
The declaration was made under subsection 9(1) of the Holidays Act 1951. It applies to federal and state civil servants serving in Selangor. For the private sector, the Labour Department clarified that this is an optional public holiday rather than an automatic day off for every employee; actual treatment depends on the public holidays selected by the employer.
